Leadership and Team Development Programs PAGE >

Every Australian leader and team is starting from a different place. Leadership development and team coaching aren’t a one-size-fits-all.

That’s why I offer several practical development pathways. Each one is designed to create useful reflection, honest conversations and practical action that can be applied back in everyday work.

Creating team commitments

Hi, I’m Murray.

As a Leadership Development Coach licensed by Acumen Global Partners, I work with leaders and teams who want to improve the way they think, communicate and work together.

My role is to create the right space for people to reflect, have better conversations and make practical changes in how they lead. Sometimes that means working with individual leaders over several months. Sometimes it means helping a team understand what is getting in the way. Sometimes it means giving leaders a practical framework for navigating complexity and uncertainty.

But the real work happens in the conversations, commitments and actions people take between sessions. The programs below are designed to give Australian leaders, teams and organisations different entry points into that work.

Murray Wright’s Leadership Development, Leading in Complexity & Team Coaching Starter Programs FAQS

In my experience as a leadership coach, leadership development is most effective when it happens over time. Workshops can introduce useful ideas, but lasting change comes from applying those ideas in everyday leadership situations.

My Leadership Development Program helps leaders strengthen their self-awareness, communication, accountability and influence through a structured process delivered across several months. The space between sessions allows participants to practise new approaches, reflect on their experiences and turn insight into action.

The honest answer is that it depends on what’s being changed, how engaged the individual is and what support exists in the organisation around them. But in my experience as a Leadership and Team Development Coach, meaningful behaviour change rarely comes from a single event.

A two-day workshop can introduce ideas and create useful reflection. But it’s rarely enough to shift established patterns. Those patterns have usually developed over years, reinforced by the culture and expectations of the organisation around the leader.

A six-month program gives leaders enough time to work on a focused set of behaviours, practise them in real situations, notice what’s changing and make further adjustments. Six months isn’t a magic number, but it’s a realistic one. It’s long enough to create genuine change and short enough to maintain momentum and focus.

Individual leaders also develop at different rates. Some things shift relatively quickly – a leader becomes aware of a pattern and changes it almost immediately. Others take longer, particularly when they’re deeply ingrained or connected to how the leader sees themselves. A good leadership development program accommodates that variation rather than expecting everyone to move at the same pace.

Over the years, I've found that leadership training, leadership coaching and leadership development each play an important role, but they're not the same thing. Training helps people learn new skills. Coaching creates space for reflection, challenge and personal growth. Leadership development is broader. It's about helping leaders build the awareness, behaviours and habits that support lasting change.

In my experience, the strongest outcomes come from combining learning, reflection, practical application and accountability over time, helping leaders not only learn something new, but lead differently as a result.

In my experience, individual leadership development and team coaching address different needs. Leadership development focuses on building a person's awareness, skills and leadership capability over time. Team coaching focuses on how a team functions together. Even highly capable leaders in Australia can struggle to perform collectively when trust is low, communication is inconsistent or priorities are unclear.

Team coaching creates space to strengthen relationships, improve accountability and align ways of working. Often, the strongest results come from combining both approaches, helping individuals grow as leaders while also improving how the team works together to achieve its goals.

At Murray Wright & Associates, the outcomes of leadership development and team coaching depend on the challenges being addressed, but there are some common themes. Leaders often develop greater self-awareness, stronger relationships and more confidence in the conversations that matter. They become more deliberate in how they lead, communicate and hold themselves and others accountable.

At an organisational level, these changes can strengthen collaboration, improve communication and contribute to positive cultural change over time. I always encourage organisations to view development as an ongoing journey. A well-designed program can create meaningful momentum, but the strongest outcomes come when leaders continue applying what they have learned beyond the program.

In my experience, one of the clearest signs a leadership program is working is that people begin behaving differently. Leaders have better conversations, hold accountability more consistently and build stronger relationships across their teams. Some outcomes are visible quickly, while others take longer to emerge. Cultural change, in particular, rarely happens overnight.

That's why I build review and reflection into the process rather than waiting until the end. It allows participants and organisations to identify what's changing, what isn't and where further development may be needed. Leadership development creates momentum, but lasting change comes through ongoing practice and application.
