  • The value of learning through books
  • A thirst for knowledge can take you a long way if you are passionate about trying to seek out information and to self teach
  • Finding mentors through your network can help you learn and grow from their experience
  • Treat your people right because “people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” (Maya Angelou)
  • Make sure that you've got the right people on your team, make sure they're in the right roles and if they're not the right people, to get them off quickly
  • Culture is the overarching strategy because everything comes back to culture. It starts with people that you recruit, looking for people that share your values, that have alignment with your vision because skillsets can be trained
  • Good leadership results when you are able to align personal values with your organisation’s values
  • Culture is not fixed, it has to be continually worked on and adjusted
  • Leadership is about acting with integrity and making sure that as a leader you're walking the walk and you're talking the talk of strong values and beliefs
  • Leadership is the ability to step in and step up to a situation when no one else would
  • It is important to have self-awareness and self-belief to step into a leadership role in different situations
  • In the fitness industry as with all other businesses, one must be well versed in the role of technology and how it defines the market
  • To enable one to stick to a fitness regimen one must first set realistic expectations - lower the bar, then one must find a fitness activity that one enjoys preferably with an accountability buddy
