Murray Wright - Solo
Oscar Trimboli
Overview

This episode is dedicated to all those caught up in the Australian bushfires, which got me thinking about the big questions! I invite you to stand with our future generations to think about what they need from us today. How do we want to answer as they ask us ‘what have you done?’

I look at compassion and why it can be hard to give to some, yet when we find it, empowering. You’ll also hear an uplifting story of compassion and action to take help us focus on what we can do to take us into 2020.

You'LL Learn

  • As we think about what we do, we are accountable not only to ourselves but our current and future stakeholders, including our grandchildren and the planet.
  • The question is not what do you want to do, but what do your stakeholders, current and future need you to do? What do need from you today?
  • Compassion: if we can have compassion for everyone in the system, including those not in the room who cause problems, we can have better understanding. If we lose that compassion, we lose our ability to be constructive and collaborative.
  • Compassion is not about letting people off the hook – it's not about a lack of accountability. It is about putting the actions of others aside and looking at the person, the human being who has needs like all of us.
  • Jim Dethmer talks about “Leading Above the Line”, passing through that defensive, combative, negative space below the line to that constructive, collaborative, solution focused space that leads to better outcomes, above the line.
  • Desmond Tutu says, “If you are going to be compassionate, be prepared for action.”
  • Your contributions need not be larger than life gestures, Mother Teresa of Calcutta said, “If you can't feed hundreds, then feed one.”
